MKM with successful recertification

  • Recertification audit to ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949:2016
  • Excellent quality management: no discrepancies
  • Harings: “Focussing on quality gives a competitive edge”
  • MKM intending to accelerate growth in the automotive and energy sectors

Hettstedt, 19 October 2018. MKM Mansfelder Kupfer und Messing GmbH, Hettstedt, has passed its two recertification audits to ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949:2016, the new standard for quality management systems in the automotive industry, with no discrepancies. “We wish to further accelerate our growth in markets sensitive to quality such as the automotive industry as well as power generation and transmission. Excellent quality management is a genuine distinguishing feature here”, says MKM CEO Roland Harings. MKM is likely to be taken over by the KME Group, Osnabrück, as early as the fourth quarter 2018. The owners of MKM Mansfelder Kupfer und Messing GmbH, Hettstedt, and the KME Group signed a contract of sale in July which provides for the complete takeover of MKM. As soon as EU competition authorities and MKM’s financial partners have given their agreement, the takeover can be completed.

Expanding in the automotive sector since 2016

MKM was the first company in the copper industry to have itself certified to the high standard of the automotive industry as early as 2016, and it expanded into the automotive supply business after an extensive investment programme and the introduction of new processes and production procedures. For example, MKM is supplying mass-produced components with high electrical conductivity and sophisticated geometry to leading manufacturers of electric vehicles. The auditors from Lloyd’s Register explicitly praised the success of Six Sigma projects at MKM, the introduction of reliable, efficient processes as well as its succession planning and improved knowledge management. “Significantly higher customer satisfaction and a negligibly low rate of complaints proves that it pays to focus on quality”, explains Klaus-Dieter Palm, Head of Quality Management and Development at MKM.
