MKM expands into the electromobility market

  • Up to a million components per month with high product quality standards
  • Copper components with high electrical conductivity
  • MKM supplies newcomer NIO with special products for high-performance SUV

Hettstedt, April 27, 2018. MKM Mansfelder Kupfer und Messing GmbH (MKM), based in Hettstedt, is well on the way to establishing itself as an automotive supplier in a genuine market of the future – electromobility. After several successful trial deliveries, in future MKM will supply around a million components a month to the new Chinese customer NIO, which is about to launch series production of a high-performance SUV with a fully electric drive system. MKM is a global technology leader in copper and brass semi-finished products.

MKM sees off international competition

MKM’s production volume for its new customer is equivalent to a strand length of 135 kilometers of high-purity, oxygen-free copper with extremely high electrical conductivity. “This represents a remarkable achievement for MKM. We have succeeded in establishing ourselves as a supplier for series production in the electromobility sector within seven months of the project starting,” remarked CEO Roland Harings. The company has overcome international competitors. “We have demonstrated that we can cut it at the highest level globally in the automotive industry in every respect – whether in terms of strength, electrical conductivity, tolerances, geometry, flatness, burr-free production or process-reliability. We’re proud to be involved in such a future-oriented venture,” Harings underlined.
